Edelrid
Back
The braid and cord factory EDELRID was founded in 1863
by the businessman Julius Edelmann and the technician
Carl Ridder in Isny, Allgaeu. Besides the common braids
and cords the production of technical weaves was introduced
in the early years. In 1880 the first braided fishing
lines made of linen and silk were shown at the international
exhibition of fishing articles in Berlin.
Innovative thinking and behaviour has characterized
the company's guidelines for decades. The kernmantel
construction, first used by EDELRID in the fifties is
still the basis of EDELRID climbing ropes today and
is also used increasingly in industry.
This revolutionary construction has proved suitable
for other fields of application as well. Even EDELRID's
term "Kernmantel" was adapted by many important languages
and their standards.
The wide range of kernmantel products was extended
by seamless bicolour ropes. The result was better and
easier handling and safer abseiling.
Permanent research, development, testing and the realization
of the dynamic elements affecting man and material during
climbing led to the first four- and later six layer
harnesses. These harness systems made of braided endless
ropes were a further essential landmark element of the
EDELRID safety chain in mountaineering and occupational
safety.
EDELRID's product range includes several thousand items
that are mostly made to specification and detailed requirements
or developed in cooperation with customers for their
specific purpose.
These examples as well as the necessity to guarantee
absolute reliabilty for paragliding lines, for ropes
used in descender devices and for Personal Protective
Equipment against falls from a height in the non-military
area require precise and quality-controlled manufacturing
processes.
At the beginning of the nineties the two departments
mountaineering and technical braidings built the basis
for a new business branch: Industrial safety. In this
area EDELRID focuses mainly on perfectly matching solutions
for fall arrest and rescue systems. The activities reach
from planning and construction to manufacturing and
service. The user receives excellent custom-made systems
from one source.
